Freedom’s Dawn

by Richard Reed

5/2001

I pause for reflection, on the edge of the once distant dream.

What was once the illusion, on the morrow becomes reality.

This prisons eve, the dawn of my freedom lies but hours away.

Through the valley of shadows, and bitter trials have I journeyed far.

The light of the shining son, carried me when I could not stand.

By His grace, could I see through bitter tears.

The rolling of thunder, still fresh in my ears highlights of blue sky.

The strength of the tempest, has deepened my roots, as the burning lightning has forged the steel of my mind.

The coal of my soul by the pressure of divine trial, has a diamond made.

As I arise from the prison depths, I am reborn anew.

With the coming of freedom’s dawn once again I ride into the new day.

I strive forth with duty and strength to build the empire.
